Chesapeake Bay Foundation Tree Planting

On October 19, 2019, volunteers from Dupont, Hopewell Parks and Recreation, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and the community came together to plant over 60 different trees around the school. Several varieties of trees were planted, including redbuds, scarlet oak, loblolly pines, American pines and many more to beautify the greenspace and provide access to shade, as well as shelter for animals in the neighborhood. The planting is part of a three-year partnership between the city of Hopewell and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

 

It took many weeks of planning to ensure the best placement of trees, as well as digging the holes ahead of time to make planting as easy as possible. On Saturday, volunteers finished digging the wholes started by the large equipment and ensured that they were wide enough and deep enough for optimal plant growth. Volunteers also added a layer of mulch, stakes, and trunk cover to prevent animals from eating the trunks of the young trees so that the trees.
